Yingkiong, Dec 16: Continuing the widespread support and success of the “Air Gun Surrender Abhiyan” of the Department of Environment & Forest, a total of 285 Airguns were surrendered by the people of various villages of Upper Siang District in a function held at the multi-purpose community hall in Yingkiong.
Speaking on the occasion, the Guest of Honour Alo Libang stressed on the importance of maintaining the ecological balance and the need to preserve and protect the faunal biodiversity of the district for the generations to come or else they would only be seen on paper. He also stressed on the tourist potential that such conservation effort would bring for the district. The Chief Guest spoke about the genesis of the movement from Debeyar Circle in 2020 and thanked everyone especially those who had surrendered their Airguns. 
"We need to change our mindset of looking at birds and animals only as meat," Libang said also emphasising the important role that birds play in spreading seeds across the forests.
He concluded with the appeal to make the vision of Arunachal as an Airgun free state saying, “kandhe pe bandook lagake shoot karna choriye aur galein mein camera lagake shoot kijiye”.
The function conducted by the Office of the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Upper Siang was attended by Minister Environment and Forest and WRD, Mama Natung as the Chief Guest.
