ITANAGAR, Apr 4:As part of the consultation process with the state governments, the 15th Finance Commission, headed by acting Chairperson, Shaktikanta Das, will be visiting Arunachal Pradesh from April 5-8 next. The Commission will stay at Itanagar for the first two days then it will head to Tawang on the 7th  to interact with the Panchayat leaders there.

At Itanagar, the Commission has a packed schedule over two days that includes meetings with the Governor, Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, Ministers, Chief Secretary, Secretaries, Commissioners and other officials of the state. The status of Finances in the state will be presented by the state government.

In order to further understand the opportunities and challenges in the state, the commission will also meet leaders of various political parties, urban local bodies and panchayat raj institutions, presidents of tribal associations, women representatives, chambers of commerce, progressive farmers etc.

The Finance Commission, set up in 1951, basically decides how revenue has to be distributed between the Centre and the States along with deciding the principle on which grants-in-aid will be given to the states. The recommendations made by the 15th Finance Commission will kick in from April 1, 2020 and will be observed for a period of five years.

The 15th Finance Commission, which will submit its recommendations by October 31, 2019, is headed by former Revenue Secretary and former Rajya Sabha MP, N.K.Singh and includes Shaktikanta Das, former Economic Affairs Secretary and Dr. Anoop Singh, Adjunct Professor, Georgetown University as members. Dr. Ashok Lahiri, Chairman, Bandhan Bank and Dr. Ramesh Chand, Member, Niti Aayog serves as part time members in the Commission.
