Tension in Niglok Over Proposed Silicon Factory
Bomdila, Feb 18: In a major milestone for healthcare services in West Kameng district, the Zonal General Hospital Bomdila successfully performed its first oncology (cancer) surgery today.
The medical team conducted a complex Modified Radical Mastectomy (MRM) for breast cancer, completing the four-hour-long procedure under challenging conditions. The surgery was carried out despite constraints such as high-altitude climatic conditions, severe winter cold, limited infrastructure, and shortage of trained Operation Theatre (OT) personnel.
The procedure was led by senior Anaesthesiologists Dr. Ani Siram and Dr. Tomeru Rina, General Surgeon-cum-Oncosurgeon. They were supported by Nursing Officers Ms. Pema Chuki and Ms. Reshmi Umpo, along with Technicians Mr. Amit Kumar, Ms. Geyin Siram, and Ms. Lobsang, whose coordinated efforts ensured the successful outcome of the surgery.
Such complex oncology procedures are often referred to higher centres; therefore, this achievement marks a significant step towards strengthening specialized healthcare services at the district level. The successful operation reflects the dedication and growing capability of the hospital in delivering advanced medical care within the district itself.
The development is expected to greatly benefit patients of Bomdila and the entire West Kameng district by reducing the need for referral to distant hospitals for cancer-related surgical interventions (DIPRO)
