Ziro, Oct 3: To mark the beginning of the National Wildlife Week, the theme jacket and T-shirts of the upcoming Ziro Butterfly Meet (ZBM) 2025 were unveiled on October 1, by Dr. Tage Kanno, Adviser of NgunuZiro, in the presence of Tilling Taker, Divisional Forest Officer, Hapoli Forest Division.
The Ziro Butterfly Meet, an annual event jointly organized by the Hapoli Forest Division and NgunuZiro, will commence its field activities from October 5. This year, over 40 participants from across the country, along with butterfly enthusiasts and conservationists from Arunachal Pradesh, will take part in the programme. Members of community-based organizations and students from colleges and schools in the Ziro valley will also actively participate.
The event will feature the participation of experts including a Pteridologist, Orchidologist, Lepidopterist, Ornithologist, and Ecologist, who will serve as resource persons. Activities have been especially designed to engage and educate participants, such as Butterfly Walk, Moth Watching, Bird Watching, Botanization, Nature Guide Workshop, Conservation Talks, and the screening of Nature and Wildlife Films.
The Inaugural Session will be held at the Ziro Butterfly Park, Siikhe Lake, followed by field studies at Pange Camp, the gateway to Tale Wildlife Sanctuary. On this occasion, the second edition of the book “Butterflies of Ziro” will also be formally released.
First initiated by NgunuZiro in 2013, the Ziro Butterfly Meet gained international attention when the rare and striking Kaiser-i-Hind butterfly was photographed live for the first time. This discovery placed Ziro prominently on the global butterfly map. Since then, the Meet has grown into a significant platform for conservationists, researchers, and wildlife enthusiasts, fostering awareness, documentation, and the protection of butterflies and their habitats.
