MAHADEVPUR, Apr 18: Hundreds of youths today blocked the Dirak check gate and stopped movement of traffic for several hours in protest against the  alleged physical assault, harassment and discrimination of few local youths working at Khumchai –EPS under Oil India Limited, Changlang district.
Speaking to the media, President, All Lekang Youths & Students Union (ALYSU) Binod Morang stated that a complaint was received from some youths of their area who were recruited as Fire Safety Employees at Khumchai-EPS under Oil India of being physically assaulted and harassed by one Ramesh Gogoi, who also threatened them to leave their jobs.
Following the complaint, we filed an FIR at Diyun Police Station but the police authority failed to take any action against the accused. So, as a mark of protest today we resorted to democratic movement at Dirak check gate, he added. “Ramesh Gogoi has threatened the youths including women, stating that they are not locals from the area and have no right to hold jobs in the said organization. Youths who were recruited on merit are from the Lekang circle of Namsai district and other neighbouring districts of Arunachal Pradesh. How can  a person discriminate against them?, questioned Morang while demanding immediate action.
Meanwhile, after the day-long protest, President - Deori Youth & Student Union (DYSU) Bhakton Deori informed that the  protest was called off after authorities assured to fulfill their demands. 
In our FIR we have demanded registration of FIR against Ramesh Gogoi, suspension of Officer Incharge-Diyun Police station, and immediate accommodation and security to the newly recruited Fire Safety Employees. However, if the authority failed to fulfill the demands as assured, we may continue the protest, added Deori.
