RONO HILLS, May 19: The Mega Yoga Awareness Camps organised by the department of Physical Education, Rajiv Gandhi University which kicked off on May 10 last concluded today at Good Shepard Public School, Papu Nallah, Naharlagun.
About 160 participants including school chairman Dr. Boa Reena Tok and Principal Joshy V. Kurian along with students, teachers and staff members actively attended the camp. The chairman while appreciating RGU’s efforts in promoting yoga, explained the importance of yoga in maintaining fitness and how meditation and spirituality helps students to improve concentration. HoD Dr. Anil Mili exhorted the students to practice yoga for a balanced life and meeting the future challenges.
A total of 10 camps were organised where the participants were taught various asanas & pranayamas by the students of Post Graduate Diploma in Yoga Therapy Education of the department. Talks by experts on various aspects like weight management & nutrition, stress management, life skills, relief from psychosomatic problems and many other related topics of health and fitness in daily life were also the highlights of these camps. A total of 653 participants ranging from 6 to 65 years of age participated in the camps.
Apart from achieving the motto of educating the masses regarding fitness and wellness through exercises and yogas, the camps also resulted in job offers for the students of the department from four institutions.A special 6-day camp from May 13-18 was also held for 12 BN NDRF, Emchi where the entire battalion of more than 150 personnel were benefited under the guidance of Commandant Umesh Kumar Thapliyal.
