ITANAGAR, May 31: World No Tobacco Day was observed across the state today which was marked by programmes to raise awareness on the harmful impact of tobacco use especially among school going children.
AALO: West Siang Deputy Commissioner's office took the pledge against tobacco use. DC Penga Tato declared the DC office complex and SP office as No Tobacco
Zone and also directed all the HoDs to issue similar notices in their office premises. If any body is found violating the prohibitory order,the defaulter will be imposed fine as per law and action will be initiated by the district administration, he said.
To monitor the prohibitory order,ADC Aalo has been entrusted to check the office complexes on regular basis.
YUPIA: The District Tobacco Control Cell,Papum Pare District,Yupia observed World No Tobacco Day today.
District consultant Tamchi Yabi briefed the participants on the aims and objectives of the National Tobacco Control Programme which is to spread awareness on the harmful effects of tobacco products to the general public especially to the youths. She also spoke about the significance of the day that every year the campaign is to raise awareness on the harmful and deadly effects of tobacco use and second hand smoke exposure and to discourage the use of tobacco in any form. She also urged the participants to spread the word about availability of services like nicotine transdermal patches,consultation and counselling that is free of cost to quit tobacco at tobacco cessation centre at CHC Doimukh.
During the program, Dr.RR Ronya spoke about the impact of tobacco menace especially on school going children. She also encouraged the teachers to conduct surprise checking at schools.
The schools under Papum Pare district(rural)Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya Sagalee,Govt.Higher Secondary Sagalee,Govt.upper primary School Tigdo,Govt.secondary Kokila,Govt secondary Jote,Govt Higher secondary Doimukh were felicitated for achieving Tobacco Free Zone within their school premises.
Further PHC Lenka, PHC Mengio, AHWC Hostallam, Balijan CHC,Kanebung HWC,Poma PHC and Pilla HWC observed World No Tobacco Day by conducting yoga session and taking anti tobacco pledge at their respective centres. Tobacco Control Cell,CHC Doimukh conducted focus discussion on harmful effects of tobacco where patients were counselled to quit tobacco by Psychologist Lope Kena.
RAGA: The day was also observed in the Kamle District headquarters by District Health Society, Kamle in convergence with Jal Jeevan Mission Programme of PHE&WSD, Kamle Division. DC Adong Pertin advised all gathering and the PRI leaders to abstain from consuming tobacco or any of its products. He also, directed PR leaders to spread awareness on harmful effects of tobacco use especially on school going children.
