ITANAGAR, May 28: The Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW), Itanagar celebrated the World Menstrual Hygiene Day'2022 in collaboration with Oju Welfare Association (OWA), Naharlagun by organising an awareness camp at OWA premises today. The programme was sponsored by the National Commission for Women (NCW), New Delhi.
In the keynote address, Nabam Yahi Tad, Vice Chairperson, APSCW encouraged the participants to treat menstruation as a natural part of life and not as a taboo. "We should open up on menstruation through awareness programmes. Every person irrespective of gender should be able to discuss it openly. Being a women we should take this issue seriously," she said.
During the monthly menstrual cycle most women suffers pain and discomfort due to biological change. Giving as an example of corporate houses like Zomato which grants leave to female staffs, she said that after research works a collective decision should be taken to make it as a policy and further approach Government consideration of this policy.
Resource person Dr. Marinda Panggeng, Member IMA, Arunachal Pink Health Mission elaborated menstrual hygiene in her powerpoint which can help women to stay healthy and enjoy hygienic life.
Ratan Anya, Chairperson OWA, proposed to the APSCW to recommend to the government to establish sanitation facilities for women in market areas, schools and other important places.
