Naharlagun, May 20: ​World Bee Day was celebrated at the Directorate of Agriculture, Krishi Bhavan Naharlagun on Monday; This year’s theme is “Bee engaged with the youth”. 
Director Horticulture Nawang Lobsang  and Opung Jamoh Assistant Director department of  Sericulture attended the programme as chief guest and guest of honour respectively among a host of other officials.
​In the morning opening session, the notified districts under the ABHM presented PPTs on the various work done & achievements in the field of Bee keeping in their respective districts. Three best performing districts — Papumpare, Changlang and Lohit were conferred Commendation certificates.
Later in the technical session trainers’ training programme on beekeeping for field functionaries was conducted.
​This year’s theme “Bee engaged with Youth” is being observed to mark the importance and raise awareness on the role of bees in pollination and their contribution towards sustainable development in nutrition in the form of honey and the threat they face. Bee keeping can also serve as a source of employment for the unemployed youth of the country in general and Arunachal Pradesh in particular. There are mainly seven types of bees found in the state for pollination with economic importance viz Rock Bee (Apis Dorsata), Indian Honey Bee (Apis CeranaIndica), European Honey Bee (Apis Mellifera), Dwarf Honey bee (Apis florae), Bumble Bee (Bombus Spp.), and Stingless Bee (Trigona/Melipona). Considering the rich and diverse flora & fauna, Arunachal Pradesh is a sleeping giant in honey production, the department said in a statement.
