ITANAGAR, May 26: A two day workshop on Intellectual Property Right (IPR) on its awareness and importance was organized on May 25-26 at AP Science Centre, IG Park by Patent Information Centre (PIC) under Arunachal Pradesh State Council for Science & Technology, Itanagar in collaboration with Technology, Information, Forecasting and Assessment Council (TIFAC), Department of Science and Technology, Govt of India, New Delhi. Participants from higher institutes, Department of Textile & Handicraft, representatives from NGOs participated in the workshop.

The programme was inaugurated by Bamang Mangha, Chairman, AP State Council for Science and Technology, Department of Science and Technology, in presence of Secretary, Science and Technology,Er Gaken Ete, Director and Member Secretary, APSCSTEr. T Ronya.

In his welcome address Er. T. Ronya expressedhappiness over the expertise on such important issue by the expert from TIFAC, New Delhi for the benefit of the people of Arunachal Pradesh. He urged the scientist who were present as Resource Person to extend their support in formulating and implementing such programmes and policies being taken up in the state in future.

Er, Gaken Ete, emphasised on geographical indications (GI) on plant species, agricultural products, eco-culture and traditional practices of various tribes of Arunachal Pradesh. He said, the department will look forward for more such awareness levels in future in the state which will create more awareness at the grass root level and there are lot of areas for patenting.

Chairman Bamang Mangha, highlighted on the development of innovative technology in rural based areas for more invention and innovation which can lead to more patent and geographical indications (GI). In the Technical session: Prof. Sudhir K Jain has spoken on Innovation and Intellectual Property Rights (IPR).

Lecture on Overview of IPR and case studies and Patentability and developing research vistas using patent information in Universities and R&D Institutes was presented by Dr. Yashawant Dev Panwar.

In her power point presentation Dr. Mahuya Hom Chaudhary has emphasis on Geographical Indications documentation, filing, protection and further role of PIC.
