PASIGHAT, Jan 8: Demanding an appropriate recognition for all martyrs of the Anglo-Abor war, the Adi Baane Kebang Women’s Wing (ABKWW) has appealed to the State and Central governments to build a common war memorial for them who sacrificed their lives fighting the British in the Indian freedom movement.
Visiting the four war memorials of the martyrs in East Siang and Upper Siang districts, ABKWW President Olen Megu Damin said a common memorial for all the war heroes should be constructed along with a war museum to display the weapons, spears and other armaments used by them during the Anglo-Abor war when the British tried to occupy the Adi areas. She reiterated that the Central and State governments should give due recognition to the martyrs of the Adi community of Arunachal Pradesh like Lutnyung Megu,  Borkeng Tayeng, Kebo Tayeng, Kebang Perme and many others.
It is pertinent to recall that these martyrs laid down their lives while defending their people and homeland against the invasion of the British forces who undertook the Abor Expedition with sole objective of punishing the Bor Abors of the present Damro village under Mariyang Sub-Division in Upper Siang district.
It was a history of absolute bravery and patriotism that is still remembered with reverence by the people of the state, although such acts of gallantry had hardly been recognised across the country nor any historian has recorded them in their books.
