ITANAGAR, Jul 14: The two days training of Women on Basics of Disaster Response organised by the Department of Disaster Management concluded today at DKCC Itanagar. 
The Deputy Commissioner Capital Itanagar Talo Potom urged all the participants to utilise the expertise gained during the training to train others especially family, friends, neighbours etc. He said most of the locations in the Capital falls under the category of vulnerable and hence we should be prepared to tackle if any kind of disaster happens. 
He urged the participants to organise awareness camp on disasters in their respective sectors/ colonies while adding that District Administration and Deptt of Disaster Management will provide all kind of support and cooperation. Taking the opportunity, the DC also spoke about the menace of drug abuse in the capital and sought the cooperation of all to jointly fight this menace. He informed that a drug de-addication cum rehabilitation centre is coming up at Lekhi. 
Director Komkar Dulom said that various measures are being adopted by the Department to sensitise and  train others on disaster preparedness.
He said that volunteers are also undergoing yearlong training under AAPDA Mitra at Lekhi to learn the technicalities of training and to make themselves capable to handle the community’s immediate need in the aftermath of a disaster and to enable them to undertake basic relief and rescue tasks during emergency situations.
DDMO Jogam Angu informed that during the two days training,  team of NDRF provided basics of response technique during disasters. 
They were briefed on safety tips on fire, earthquake, landslide, flash floods etc., by Assistant Directors Papang Duggong and Dorjee khandu and DDMO Capital Moromi Dodum Sonam.
A mock exercise on earthquake was also organised.
Earlier, Deputy Director Christine Wanglat  while welcoming all hoped that with the efforts of all to sensitise the people on disaster preparedness, Arunachal would soon become a disaster resilient state.  She had also briefed in detail about the role of Women in Disaster management.
Later, in the interaction session the participants spoke about their experience and knowledge gained during the two days training.  All the 147 participants were also handed over certificates by the DC.
Among others, Assistant Commissioner Datum Gadi attended the programme.
