ITANAGAR, Sep 7: Awareness Rallies on Women Empowerment were held across the state today to mark the 250th Birth Anniversary of Raja Ram Mohan Roy as part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav. The event was organised by the respective District Library in collaboration with the Raja Ram Mohan Roy Library Foundation under the aegis of Ministry of Culture, Government of India.  Speakers highlighted the contributions made by the pioneer social reformer towards women empowerment.
At Bomdila, the rally was flagged of by Deputy Commissioner West Kameng, Karma Leki, which was participated by students and teachers. Interacting with the students, he encouraged them to work hard to succeed in their chosen fields and contribute to make women empowerment a reality.
At Ziro, the rally was flagged-off by Deputy Commissioner Bamin Nime amidst a large gathering of school children from various schools and officials of District Library and Museum.
Speaking on the occasion, the DC advised the students to learn from the pioneering selfless social works of Raja Ram Mohan Roy for the cause of women and urged them to keep pace with boys  in academics and co-curricular activities as both the genders have become equal today.
At Tezu, SDO Lui Shiba flagged-off the rally and addressing the participants mainly girl students spoke on the role played by Raja Ram Mohan Roy in empowering women, citing examples of abolishing the practice of Sati, child marriage, education for women, etc. She encouraged the students to be more resilient and confident enough to attain independence. She also advised them to regularly visit the nearest library and inculcate reading habit.
In Namsai, Deputy Commissioner, C.R. Khampa emphasised the role women folks played in transforming Namsai from an aspirational district to  one of the fastest developing districts of the country. Encouraging the girl students participating in the programme, he said, "our country will be empowered in true sense only with equal participation of women in all developmental activities".
Citing an example of last Common wealth Games, he said, our women are marching ahead shoulder to shoulder with their male counterparts and have achieved numerous success in all the fields such as Games and Sports, Research and Development and other sectors for upliftment of socio-economic status of our country.
DPO, Namsai Dr. Keshab Sarmah in his motivational speech enlightened about the life history, including the struggles faced, challenges subdued and sacrifices made by Raja Ram Mohan Roy who had fought against all social evils during 19th and 20th century in India.
At Tawang,
The awareness procession on Women Empowerment was flagged off from circuit house Tawang to District Library, which was participated by students and teachers. The day was also observed in Khonsa and other places.
