ITANAGAR, Feb 27:  In a tragic accident, a woman was killed and two children seriously injured after a massive blaze engulfed a residential house in E-Sector, Itanagar, in the early hours of Friday.
The fire broke out around 12:30 AM opposite the Arunachal Pradesh Civil Secretariat, rapidly spreading through the house and reducing it to ashes within minutes.
The deceased has been identified as Tarh Yayum, around 40-years-old. Two children sustained critical burn injuries and were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment.
According to local residents, at least two LPG cylinders exploded during the blaze, triggering multiple loud blasts that intensified the inferno and created panic in the locality. The explosions are believed to have accelerated the fire’s spread, leaving the family with nothing as the entire house and belongings were completely destroyed.
Fire and Emergency Services personnel from the Itanagar Fire Station rushed to the spot and managed to prevent the flames from spreading to adjacent houses, averting a larger catastrophe in the densely populated colony.
However, controversy followed the incident after a firefighter shared a video alleging that a structure — reportedly a meat shop constructed along the colony road — obstructed the entry of the fire tender, causing delays in accessing the site. In the video, he appealed to citizens to refrain from unauthorized constructions that could hamper emergency response operations and put lives at risk.
The exact cause of the fire remains unknown. Authorities have launched an investigation to ascertain the circumstances leading to the tragic incident.
