LONGDING, Jul 10: In a significant development in the fight against drug trafficking, the Longding District Police in collaboration with 40 Assam Rifles (AR) Longding, apprehended a 22-year-old woman identified as Pampi Wangsa from Kamhua Noknu village.
The arrest took place after intercepting a Tata Nexon vehicle at Niuanuu and Niuassa villages. The vehicle was en route from Pongchoa and was intercepted at approximately 8AM. The police seized 11 packets of suspected brown sugar, weighing 140.2 grams, cleverly concealed in soap cases to deceive authorities and the general public.
The Longding police is actively searching for the partner of the accused, who managed to flee from Pongchoa upon learning about the arrest of her associate. The investigation is ongoing, and additional arrests are anticipated in the coming days as the Longding police, in coordination with other security agencies, intensify their efforts to eradicate the drug menace in the district.
The seized contraband substances, suspected to be brought from Longwa District in Mon Nagaland, were presented in court along with the accused. The Judicial Magistrate remanded the accused Pampi Wangsa, to judicial custody for a period of 14 days.
This recent success follows a previous operation conducted on June 24, where the Longding District Police, along with 40 AR and 36 BN CRPF, apprehended four drug traffickers, including three females, from a vehicle. On that occasion, 11 packets of brown sugar were seized as well, stated a release.
