PASIGHAT, Jul 7: Interacting with the press persons of East Siang Press Association and Jonai Press Club, Assam here on Thursday, the Women Against Social Evils (WASE) has strongly pleaded the State government to re-consider its decision regarding setting up of IMFL distillation unit at IGC, Niglok.

The WASE activists led by President Omen Ering and General Secretary Joya Tasung Moyong said that they are failing to understand the government’s decision to go ahead despite the fact that it was scrapped earlier during the short regime of Late Kaliko Pul after public opposition.

While one Daniel Padung from Mikong village who claimed to had brought the same M/s Tsong Distilleries Pvt. Ltd. during the during the year 2014 told the media that, he had given up the project while clearly intimating Ashok Kumar Subba, owner of the company to cancel the project respecting public complaint.

Padung and another person from Ngorlung village one Ongak Tayom further said that, the so called public hearing as shown in paper was nothing but a pre-planned and well managed strategy to show as if all people of the area support the unit.

The team WASE has strongly appealed the government to respect and regard the hard work and sacrifices of women folk who have been fighting for eradicating drug and IMFL menace from the district from quite long time now. The team WASE has maintained that, though assurances are being made not to sale the product in Arunachal Pradesh, pilferage and bootlegging are sure to happen which will affect the youths in large number.

Moreover, the Sainik School is coming up in the same premises and state government must have a re-think on the project, added WASE team emotionally who have already submitted numerous representations to the government.

WASE has also questioned the government regarding granting of character antecedent certificate to company owner Ashok Kumar Subba  who has been declared as resident of Niglok village, whereas Subba has no such residential record.
