Namsai, May 25: In a major breakthrough, security forces have recovered MQ Rifle along with 120 rounds of live ammunition concealed in an isolated location near Wingko Village in Arunachal Pradesh’s Namsai district. The recovery was made during a joint operation conducted by Assam Police, Namsai Police, Assam Rifles, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on Sunday.
The recovery was held, after the arrest of a key United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) operative, identified as Self-Styled Brigadier Rupom Axom, a wanted criminal involved in multiple serious offences, including kidnapping and murder.
According to Namsai Superintendent of Police, S. Thinley, Rupom Axom had been on the run for his involvement in the 2023 kidnapping of a petrol depot attendant and the murder of a JCB driver in Nalong village, Namsai district.
He was apprehended by Assam Police from the Lekhapani (Tinsukia)area in Assam, following intelligence inputs. During interrogation, he revealed the location where the MQ rifle and ammunition were hidden.
SP also informed that Rupam will be brought to Namsai Police Station for interrogation for the case registered in Chongkham Police Station related to 2023 Kidnapping and Murder case.
