Itanagar, May 29: In a historic ceremony that marks Arunachal Pradesh's participation in Vikshit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan 2025, Agriculture Minister Gabriel D. Wangsu today launched the Vikshit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan 2025, including the ceremonial flagging off of Krishi Raths that will traverse the state's villages to connect directly with farmers.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Wangsu described the moment as ‘proud and historic’ for Arunachal Pradesh as it joins the nation in this transformative campaign under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visionary leadership.
"Vikshit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan is not just a campaign—it is a Jan Andolan, a people's movement whose success lies in the hands of our scientists, field officers, financial institutions, SHGs, FPOs, and above all, our hard-working farmers," declared Minister Wangsu, highlighting the collaborative nature of this national initiative.
The Minister extended appreciation to Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan for conceptualising this historic movement that promises to reshape India's agricultural landscape, while acknowledging the leadership of State’s Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein in preparing the state for this endeavor.
Arunachal Pradesh has set an ambitious target to reach over 3.25 lakh farmers across 1,380 villages within the intensive two-week campaign period. This comprehensive mission involves seamless coordination between Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry & Dairy Development, and Fisheries departments, working in harmony with Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs), Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), Self-Help Groups (SHGs), and financial institutions.
The flagged-off Krishi Raths will serve as mobile units bringing agricultural knowledge, technology, and government schemes directly to farmers' doorsteps across the state's diverse terrain.
Minister Wangsu highlighted agriculture and allied sectors as the core focus of the state's development agenda, revealing substantial achievements over the past five years. “The state has allocated ₹2,000 crore under the Atma Nirbhar Scheme, with 50% contribution from the state government, directly benefiting more than 52,000 individuals and Self-Help Groups, creating ripples of prosperity across our rural landscape,” he reported.
The state government's ambitious push to establish Arunachal Pradesh as the "Orchid Capital of India" through the Horticulture Department represents a unique positioning strategy. The upcoming Integrated Processing Unit at Wakro, Namsai promises to be a game-changing investment in value addition and agri-processing capabilities, creating employment opportunities while ensuring farmers receive fair prices through enhanced processing and packaging.
“The agricultural transformation is evident through 46 Farmer Producer Organizations now working closely with the Arunachal Pradesh Agriculture Marketing Board (APAMB). Over 20,500 hectares have been successfully certified for organic production, positioning Arunachal Pradesh as a leader in sustainable agriculture,” he stated.
Mission Arun Himveer, launched in collaboration with APAMB and ITBP Jawans last year, is gaining tremendous momentum across vibrant border villages. With a dedicated revolving fund of ₹4 crore, this mission demonstrates the government's commitment to supporting farmers in every corner of the state.
Strategic infrastructure developments include Perishable Cargo Centers being developed at Donyi Polo Airport and Tezu Airport, creating direct pathways for agricultural products to reach national and international markets swiftly and efficiently. The Marketing Board is crafting a comprehensive marketing roadmap for the state's eight GI-tagged products, ensuring Arunachal Pradesh's unique agricultural treasures reach consumers nationwide with deserved recognition.
Minister Wangsu proudly announced that the Government of Arunachal Pradesh has finalized the Agriculture and Horticulture Policies 2025-2035. These forward-looking policies will guide the state's Agriculture and Horticulture Departments for the next decade, redefining priorities and establishing a clear roadmap for sustainable growth and farmer welfare.
Under the State Action Plan, Arunachal has launched the Arunachal Millet and Buckwheat Mission during the current financial year 2025-26 to promote traditional crops perfectly suited to the state's terrain and climate.
The state's agriculture sector benefits from various Centrally Sponsored Programmes from the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. Oil palm cultivation expansion is progressing across nine districts with increasing farmer participation, supported by processing plants established by 3F Oil Palm Ltd. and Patanjali Food Limited at Roing and Niglok, creating a complete value chain.
For the current financial year 2025-26, the state has received ₹96.44 crore allocation under PM-RKVY, while awaiting allocation under CSS Krishonnati. Under PM-KISAN, remarkable success has been achieved with 1,14,670 farmers registered—representing 100% of the total farming community. ₹22.64 crore was released in the last installment on February 24, 2025, with the next installment scheduled for June 2025.
Minister Wangsu highlighted that the Government of India's focus on Natural Farming aligns perfectly with Arunachal Pradesh's traditional practices. "Our farmers have been practicing natural farming by default, and this national recognition will serve as tremendous motivation for our agricultural community," he noted.
In his concluding remarks, Minister Wangsu called upon everyone to join hands with renewed energy and determination to make the Vikshit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan 2025 a resounding success not just in Arunachal Pradesh, but across the nation.
"The fields of Arunachal Pradesh are ready to embrace this transformation. Our farmers are eager to learn, adopt and excel, and our state machinery is prepared to deliver results that will make every citizen proud," declared the Minister.
