AALO, Jun 18: The Darak Inspection Bungalow sustained partial damages as the adjacent Very Low Power Transmitter(VLPT) collapsed on its roof.
Although no human casualties were reported, the incident has once again raised the question regarding the continuity of these VLPTs in visibly precarious conditions. Not only this particular VLPT, similar others in different locations like Mechuka, Kaying, Yomcha, Darak, Liromoba, Tirbin, Basar and other places have become obsolete with rust all over, altogether lying defunct since two decades when first erected.
The VLPT at Aalo, though located in a prime place, serves no purpose and poses immediate threat due to encroachment and erosion from all sides. And even though the DIPRO with help of district administration has tried its best to protect the land from encroachment and written a number of letters to the Doordarshan Maintenance Centre, Itanagar for erecting retaining wall around the centre to avert an imminent danger that might affect the dwellers, no tangible  action has been initiated by the authority so far.
The rising discontent among the local people speaks for an immediate need for dismantling these VLPTs. DIPRO
