Chimpu, Jun 8: The Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya (VKV) Alumni Association, in a heartfelt tribute to late Capt. K.K. Venkatraman on his first death anniversary, has instituted the “Best NCC Cadet Award” for one male and one female cadet annually.
The first edition of the award ceremony was held today at VKV Chimpu in the presence of esteemed dignitaries, alumni, and members of the VKV community.
Kaling Tayeng, Principal Secretary of Political, Home, PWD, and Border Affairs, graced the occasion and presented the awards to the recipients.
The Best Male NCC Cadet Award was conferred upon Bomkar Taba of the 22nd A.P. Bn NCC, Pasighat, while the Best Female NCC Cadet Award went to Lungkhung Yazi of the 1st A.P. Bn NCC, Naharlagun.
Each award includes a cash prize of ₹25,000 and a commemorative memento, generously sponsored by the family members of the late Capt. K.K. Venkatraman, fondly known as Captainji.
Capt. Venkatraman served in Arunachal Pradesh for over a decade in various capacities under the Vivekananda Kendra Arunachal Pradesh Trust (VKAPT). He was instrumental in introducing band and parade training in VKV schools, instilling a sense of discipline and patriotism among the students.
After moving to the South, he became the local guardian for many Arunachali students pursuing higher education in southern India during the early 1990s. Many of those students have gone on to become bureaucrats, doctors, and respected figures in society—a testament to Captainji’s lasting influence and mentorship.
The event also featured a screening of a commemorative video on the life and contributions of the late Captain, a rendition of patriotic songs by alumni students, and a book reading from Captainji’s work, Narmada Parikrama.
This award is a fitting tribute to Captainji’s unwavering dedication to youth development and the spirit of service embodied by the National Cadet Corps.
