PASIGHAT, Jan 23: In a whirlwind tour to East Siang district, Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (PCCF) & Principal Secretary, Environment & Forest R. K. Singh on Friday visited the Seram Forest Beat under Mebo Range Forest.

Singh was accompanied by Chief Conservator of Forest, Central Arunachal Circle Pekyom Ringu, DFO (Territory) Tashi Mize, DFO (Wildlife) Tasang Taga and ACF T. Mibang. Besides taking stock of the current status of forest conservation and protection from the staff, he attended a public meeting organized by WTI, an NGO which was participated by the GBs and locals. As a token of appreciation for their good work in conservation of forest and wildlife, Singh handed over umbrellas to the GBs. Dragon lights and calendars were also handed over to the GBs and locals by the NGO team.

Speaking on the sidelines of the public meeting, Singh appreciated the GBs for donating 1000 hectares of land along the river bank of Siang for plantation purposes and elephant corridor protection. A memorandum seeking help for the local community especially during annual floods was also submitted to the PCCF by the Chairman, KGCCR-cum-Zila Parishad Member Gumin Tayeng. Meanwhile, the villagers of Seram which is one of the most flood-affected villages in the area appealed to the PCCF to initiate strong action against timber smugglers active in the area. A copy of petition jointly signed by the GBs and village secretary was handed over to the PCCF.

Later in the evening, several contingency staffers of Pasighat Forest Division under CAMPA scheme met the PCCF demanding an immediate release of their pending salaries.
