PASIGHAT, Mar 23: The people of Namsing village, the HQ of Namsing circle under Mebo Sub-Division here in East Siang district has set an example for others by volunteering to protect their village by constructing and raising flood control measures to check continuous soil erosion towards the village by River Siang without any help and assistance from the state government.

In continuation to their last year’s effort of raising and constructing flood control measures by their own techniques and styles (by filling sands into each empty cement bags and raising it into a mega slanting wall to deviate the follow of the river current), this year too, the villagers have started doing the voluntary work to save their village by raising such flood control measures at major river current striking points at Tinimukh areas between Namsing and Seram village.

Informing about the programme and the hard effort of the village, Dananjay Pangging, Chairman, Namsing Bachao Committee who is spearheading the work with the close coordination with village PRI leaders and GBs said that, the 13 days MGNREGA works are being executed here to control the yearly soil erosion by constructing flood control measures. Panging also said that, Project Director, Pasighat has also assured to allot more days of MGNREGA if good works are done. He also said that, thousands of empty cement bags are purchased to do the work in cheapest way and last year’s measures taken on time has saved much during the monsoon.

Meanwhile, appreciating the good work of Namsing village, local MLA cum Advisor to Chief Minister, Lombo Tayeng has sanctioned an amount of Rs. 2 lakhs for the purpose and has also hinted of giving more assistance. The work has started from last Monday and will continue till 13 days of MGNREGA are over.
