ITANAGAR, Sep 9:  Reiterating its demands for the cancellation of appointments of more than 2596 Non-APSTs in Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) posts under the Indian Postal Department in at least 866 new branch offices of the India Post in Arunachal Pradesh, a conglomerate of various organizations today announced a democratic movement in the form of sit-in protest at Itanagar on September 12 next.
Speaking to the media, Likha Rajnik,  President of the Save Arunachal Youth Association (SAYA) stated that they have submitted a letter to the Superintendent of the Post-Arunachal Pradesh Division to immediately stop any kind of appointments of Non-APSTs in the state. "We are not against any community but when our own youths are unemployed, and the said post offices are to be established in various locations in Arunachal Pradesh, then preference should be given to local unemployed youths."
Interestingly, though the posts might be reserved for Schedule Tribe members, ST individuals from different states have occupied all the posts, depriving our own local youths, stated Rajnik.
Raj Pao, Chairman of the Indigenous Movement Against Corruption & for Reformation (IMAC&R), asserted that the jobs are for locals only, and there should be rectification in recruitment rules. "Instead of Hindi & English, which are not local languages of Arunachal, one of the eligibility criteria in the recruitment process,  we urge the authorities to rectify it and make indigenous languages a criterion, in line with other central departmental jobs like the Intelligence Bureau (IB)," added Pao.
He further appealed to all the Goan Burahs and Panchayat members not to sign any documents for anyone who comes to their place for NOC or other document verification.
While appealing to the public to join the 'dharna' on 12th September, Teli Yamang, President of Arunachal Nari Shakti, stated that unemployment is already a pressing issue, and parachuting such a large number of Non-APSTs into the state, depriving our educated youths, is discouraging.
The conglomerate of various organizations has also submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister demanding his intervention in the inclusion of the local dialect in the said GDS recruitments, appointments of local youths in all 866 new branch post offices, the immediate cessation of ongoing appointments, and the immediate cancellation of earlier appointments of Non-APSTs in Arunachal Pradesh.
