Ziro, Apr 7: Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Ram Nath Thakur arrived on a two-day visit to Ziro Valley, on Sunday. During his visit, he toured several key locations, including Integrated Farming at Manipolyang, Integrated Aqua Park at Tarin and the revered Shivalinga at Kardo.
During the visit to Integrated Farming at Manipolyang, the Union MoS interacted with local farmers. He appreciated the endeavour and achievements of the owner, Smti Kago Kampu. Smti Hibu Yache, ZPM of Siiro apprised the Union MoS about the challenges faced by local farmers in organic certification and marketing of their produces and also lack of cold storage facility. The Union MoS encouraged them to emphasise more on natural and organic farming. Also, he instructed the Director, Department of Agriculture, to look into the matter and create small units of cold storage facilities in villages to improve the marketability of farm produces, creation of new markets and to enhance income of local farmers.
On Monday, Ram Nath Thakur chaired a review meeting at the Mini Secretariat Building, Ziro with the District Administration and Heads of Departments. The meeting focused on assessing the progress of various social and developmental schemes, with special emphasis on Power, Health, Law & Order and Agriculture & Allied Sectors.
In the meeting, Vivek H.P, Deputy Commissioner, Lower Subansiri District provided an insightful overview of the district. He also highlighted the potentials of the district in various sectors as well as advancements made under various flagship programs. Also, he showed an awareness video on ‘Plastic Free Ziro’ to the Union MoS and informed him about the District Administration’s commitment to eliminate plastic waste through a community driven approach. While apprising about the unique Apatani Textiles to the Union MoS, the Deputy Commissioner requested him to make orders for locally made cloths, bags etc., from Ziro for the Central Government level programs in New Delhi to boost the local textile industry. 
Vivek H.P further requested the Union MoS to conduct the Central Government Meetings at Ziro in order to boost the tourism sector to which the Union MoS has assured to convey the message to the Central Government and also asked his PA to schedule one of their Ministry’s meetingsat Ziro Valley soon.
Expressing his appreciation for the warm hospitality and developmental progress of Ziro Valley, Ram Nath Thakur encouraged the Agriculture and Allied Departments to be self-sufficient (Atmanirbhar) in fish, rice, vegetables and fruits as the valley has favourable conditions for their production. He also suggested for cultivation of pulses in the valley and suggested the concerned Heads of the Departments to emphasise more on Organic Farming.
Earlier on arrival, the Union MoS was received by Gabriel D Wangsu, Minister of Agriculture, MLA Hage Appa, T.D Neckom, Director of Agriculture and Karyom Doji, Director of Horticulture, DC, SP, Administrative Officers and HODs of the district.
