NAMSAI, Dec 11: Union Minister of Heavy Industries, Dr. Mahendra Nath Pandey presided over the meeting to review NITI Aayog’s Aspirational District Programme in presence of MP(East) Tapir Gao, MLAs Chau Zingnu Namchoom and Jummum Ete Deori.
Also present in the meeting were ZPC, Nang Urmila Mancheykhun, DC C.R Khampa, ADC and District Head of Departments.
Prior to commencement of the review meeting, the Union Minister visited Amrit Sarovar and Jal Jeevan Mission sites at Jona Kachari village where he inspected the works implemented and interacted with beneficiaries of various centrally sponsored schemes. In his address during the meeting, he lauded the district for achieving various targets and for showcasing good work progress in all sectors. He urged all to focus on the gaps that were highlighted during the review meeting like skill development and financial inclusion. Highlighting the issue of malnutrition, he suggested to link the services of Anganwadi centres with the ongoing Seva Apke Dwar program of the state government giving special emphasis to Poshan Abhiyan. He ensured to endorse the matters that were put forth during the meeting, the foremost being the establishment of a Medical College in Namsai district which will cater to the needs of all the Eastern Zone districts of the state. Advising that proposals of all feasible projects should be sent to the Ministry concerned he said, “the sole aspirational district in the state should see their demands being met”.
Union Minister also visited the 60 bedded District Hospital & MCH wing which is under construction. He appreciated the pace and quality in which the work was being done.
MP Tapir Gao requested the visiting Union Minister to endorse the matter of changing the funding pattern for North Eastern region. Apprising that majority of the NE states are affected by heavy rainfall for majority of the months in a year, conducive working season is limited only to winter months, hence implementation and timely completion of work becomes an issue.
Welcoming the visiting dignitary, MLA, Chau Zingnu Namchoom said, “constant visit of Union Ministers to Namsai district has encouraged us to work harder with greater zeal and we shall strive to do the same even after the completion of ADP”. He took the opportunity to apprise about the unusual demography of the district and the hurdles that comes with it. He also talked about the drug menace in the region and the need for revamping existing aids by establishing not only de-addiction but also rehabilitation centres in the region.
Earlier DC Namsai, C. R Khampa in his welcome address talked about the genesis of Namsai district and the status of Aspirational district programme.
District Planning Officer cum Nodal Officer (ADP), Dr. Keshab Sharma gave a detailed sector wise power point presentation and briefed about the progress, achievements and bottlenecks of various parameters under Aspirational Districts Programme. He apprised that scoring has improved in health and nutrition sector since 2018 when the programme was launched. Financial inclusion, Skill development and HR gap in health department were the KPIs requiring improvement. He further briefed about the plans that have been laid to enhance the performance of the district under ADP.
