LONGDING, Jul 28:A delegation led by Deputy Spokesperson of AllArunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) Nepha Wangsa, called upon the Deputy Commissioner of Longding to take stock of the prevailing educational

scenario and discussed at length to create awareness on education. The eastern-most district of the state was adjudged poorest performingdistrict in the recent CBSE XII result.

During the discussion it came to light that the parents and teachers of various schools have taken initiative
to procure NCERT textbooks for the students. The initiative was first started by parents and teachers of Govt. Primary school, Kamhua Noknu.
Deputy Commissioner Longding, Himashu Gupta, informed that the District Administration is making an  effort to improve the educational sector and he personally has visited almost all the schools of the district. He also informed that theDistrict Administration also started smart classes in the previous year in few of the schools.

Meanwhile, Nepha Wangsa informed about the state APST stipend and other scholarship schemes which are to be extended to the students. He apprised that all the students should be given proper information and
guidelines for applying such schemes. Wangsa also thanked the DC for taking initiative of sending performing students of the district to New Delhi and other places for higher studies and for conduction of
fair and transparent recruitment of MTS, clerical staffers etc in the recent interviews.
The district administration also informed that the district is facinggreat challenges in the educational sector. The shortage of subjectteachers, unqualified and untrained teachers, poor infrastructure,

lack of teaching learning materials, non replacement of textbooks are main causes of poor performance in CBSE results, the DC informed.

It is sad to note that in most of the schools of the district thestudents are seated on the floor, sacks, wooden pieces, stones during the classes, the team observed.
The team appreciated the District Administration for taking up developmental issues such as Educational tour to all the villages and schools, successful installation of network communication, lighting
system of Longding township, fair and transparent recruitment of interviews, initiatives in health and hygiene.
