ITANAGAR, Jan 30: The Itanagar capital administration on Monday evicted unauthorized roadside vendors near the Nirvachan Bhawan and issued two day's time to vendors located at clock tower, Ganga market which is the bustling area of the state capital.
Speaking to reporters, capital ADC cum Chief Estate Officer (CEO) Jiken Bomjen informed that the action was taken following clear direction issued by the highway authority to clear obstacles within 20 metres of the national highway within the capital region.
The DA said vendors were issued orders for clearing the same as the area falls under the highway authority. Additionally the area where vendors were selling clothes belongs to a private individual and is also attached to the Nirwachan Bhawan.
“This area is not a vending zone, and the act is illegal according to the law. The entire eviction was performed according to the law. Therefore, there is no question of an act of illegality from the district administration,” the CEO said, adding that the Deputy Commissioner Talo Potom, who is also the highway incharge, has issued clear direction for the eviction.
He also informed the media that a two days time has been granted to the vendors located at Clock tower, Ganga market to clear the area. The area needs to be cleared as there is a proposed project under Itanagar smart city.
“These two areas were evicted as per the need of the hour. However, the district administration is also looking forward to carrying out more such eviction drives to clear roadside stalls, unattended stray animals, and other obstacles hampering the beauty of the city as well as movement of pedestrians,” he added.
The official further informed that the DA has received a list of around 25 individuals regarding illegal occupancy of government quarters in the capital. The administration will soon call a hearing regarding the matter and accordingly start the eviction drive.
