BANDERDEWA, July 11: In a significant blow to the illegal drug trade, Banderdewa Police successfully intercepted and arrested two individuals transporting suspected NDPS contraband in the early hours of Friday.
The operation was launched after police received credible intelligence about narcotics being moved from Nagaon in Assam towards Banderdewa. Acting swiftly, a team led by SI Koj Tada, along with ASI S.K. Jha, H/Ct. T. Bomdom, and Ct. R. Tsering, conducted the operation under the close supervision of SDPO Naharlagun, Rishi Longdo, and Inspector Kipa Hamak, Officer-in-Charge of Banderdewa Police Station.
The suspects were intercepted near Niya Colony in Banderdewa, where a meticulous search led to the recovery of two soap cases and four vials containing suspected NDPS substances, with a total weight of 27.72 grams. Following the seizure, a case was registered at Banderdewa Police Station under relevant sections of the NDPS Act and the BNS, and both accused were arrested.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Azahar Hussain, 23, and Ismail Hogue, 30, both residents of Bhakatgaon, Nagaon district in Assam.
This operation underscores the unwavering commitment of the police force, led by Dr. Nyelam Nega, APPS, Superintendent of Police, ICR Naharlagun, in the fight against narcotics. Dr. Nega has called upon the public to remain vigilant and to continue cooperating with law enforcement agencies to ensure a safer, drug-free society, stated a release by the Police.
