ITANAGAR,  Mar 7: A two-day photo exhibition on “Role of Women in India’s Freedom Struggle”, as a part of International Women’s Day celebration began today  at the All India Radio, Itanagar. The exhibition function is being organised by the Central Bureau of Communication, Regional Office Itanagar, under Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in association with AIR.
Inaugurating the event, Director, Women & Child Development, Tokmem Pertin Loyi said that this year the theme for the Int’l Women’s Day is “DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality” and is celebrating women and girls who are championing the advancement of technology and digital education. She informed that it is also exploring the digital gender-gap.
She said that according to UN data, very few women have access to the internet than men. According to the National Family Health Survey-5 in India only 54 percent women in average have mobile handset and if seen state wise, 76 percent of the women in Arunachal Pradesh have a mobile handset, which is better than the national level, she said.
On the occasion she also highlighted government schemes made especially for the women.
Attending the function as a resource person Advocate Michi Madam Leriak Gamin highlighted the issue of sexual harassment on women in workplace.  She detailed the participants on the legal rights of women who are victim of sexual harassment in workplace.
Earlier, Rakesh Doley, In-Charge Central Bureau of Communication, Regional Office Itanagar, in his welcome address briefed about the aims and objectives of the Photo Exhibition. He said that the photo exhibition aims at showcasing the “Role of Women in India’s Freedom Struggle”. He said the exhibition has given more emphasis on making the participants acquainted with the unsung women heroes of India’s Freedom Struggle. 
N. Ramanjanappa, Deputy Director and Station Head All India Radio, Itanagar, on the occasion wished all on the eve of the Int’l Women’s Day and emphasized on empowering women in every field.
