ZIRO, Dec 7: In a battle for survival in the competition, East Kameng defeated defending champion Kurung Kumey 1-0 with the help of Karan Tallang’s additional time goal (90+5’) to become second team from the Group B to qualify for the quarter finals of the ongoing 19th Tadar Tang State Level Football Tournament. Sadly for current champions Kurung Kumey, with this defeat they are out of the competition.
In another important match of Group D played in the morning at Hija HSS Ground, the already qualified Capital Complex defeated East Siang by 2-1. Nabam Peri scored the opener for CCFA in the 7th minute of the first half which was equalized by resilient East Siang through Nongku Tamut’s goal in the 50th minute. Substitute Limbi Menjo scored the winner for Capital Complex in the 71st minute. Despite the defeat East Siang qualified as runner of Group D on the virtue of having a higher number of goals in favor in comparison to Changlang.
In the last match of Group C and the league round, played between Papum Pare and Tawang in Padi Yubbey Stadium, Hapoli for the last remaining berth in quarters, the former registered 4-1 victory to reach the knockout stage as group runner up along with already qualified West Siang.
Taba Heli scored a brace for his Papum Pare in the 3rd and 11th minute of the first half to give his team a 2-0 lead in quick succession. Tawang managed to cut short the lead by Tsitim Gyatso’s goal in the 29th minute.
Despite various attempts, Tawang failed to equalize and taking advantages of counter attacks Papum Pare scored two more goals through Captain Tai Bai (90+2') and Tollum Pinku (90+5’) in the additional time of the second half.
All quarter final matches of the tournament will be played on 9th December next.
