PASIGHAT, Apr 26: The department of Sericulture under the Directorate of Textile and Handicraft conducted trainings on Beekeeping and promotion of sericulture at Sericulture farm, Sille under Ruksin Sub-Division here in East Siang District recently in which more than 40 farmers participated.
Registered farmers for Bee Keeping and Sericulture activities including interested individuals from nearby villages like Remi, Tekang, Ruksin, Sika Tode, Sika Bamin etc actively took part to gain first-hand knowledge about the rearing of Bees and silkworms for income generation. Officials and experts on Bee keeping and plantation of sericulture plants for rearing silkworms, silk production etc trained the farmers, informed Talong Tadeng, Zonal Officer of Zone-II.
Talking to the farmers, Dy. Director of Sericulture, Dagmo Riba said that the selected farmers will be further trained on silkworm and bee rearing by providing support from the government on providing equipment and plantations of silkworm plants.
Both Talong Tadeng and Dagmo Riba urged the farmers to use the provided technological knowledge on pre-cocoon (sericulture) and post-cocoon (silk processing) part including bee keeping, to generate income and employment.
