ITANAGAR, Sept 7: The Itanagar Traffic Wardens (ITW) expressed strong resentment over delay tactics by the state government related to their job security while appealing to the state government to honor its promises.
Despite the Cabinet’s earlier decision to absorb ITWs as Home Guards, years have passed with no concrete action, pushing many of them into deep financial and emotional distress, lamented an ITW member.
Speaking at the event, ITW representatives expressed their anguish, stating, “We have been serving the people of Itanagar-Naharlagun since 2012 with full dedication, often risking our lives on busy roads and working in harsh conditions. Moreover, we dedicatedly provided our services during COVID-19 and even during the Assembly Election, VIP duties. Yet, we survive on a meager salary that barely covers basic family needs. Now, with age and limited job opportunities, we are left with no option but to plead for the security we were promised.”
The wardens emphasized how the delays have left them vulnerable and anxious about their future. “We are not asking for luxury—just dignity, stability, and recognition for the service we have rendered for over a decade,” they appealed.
The ITWs urged the government to swiftly implement the Cabinet’s resolution and ensure that their livelihood is not thrown into uncertainty.
