ITANAGAR, June 13: In a proactive move to ensure compliance with tobacco regulations to safeguard the health of young individuals, the District Tobacco Control Cell (DTCC) ICR Flying Squad conducted surprise raids on various shops located near educational institutions in Itanagar on Tuesday.
The raids were carried out under Section 6 of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), which prohibits the sale of tobacco products to individuals below the age of eighteen and within a one-hundred-yard radius of any educational institution.
Led by Inspector K. Yangfo, Inspector N. Nishant, and the  team of DTCC ,ICR Flying Squad successfully seized a substantial quantity of cigarettes and other tobacco products from shops situated within the restricted area surrounding the schools of Arunodaya Govt. Hr.Sec. School, Itanagar,Govt. Hr.Sec. School, ESS sector, Itanagar, D sector middle school, Itanagar and Kingcup Public school, Itanagar
The Flying Squad also issued a warning to all violators of COTPA Section 6 (a),(b), emphasizing the importance of refraining from selling tobacco products and adhering to the law. They urged cooperation from the community in fostering a tobacco-free environment, particularly for the well-being of the youth.
Highlighting the ongoing Tobacco Free Youth Campaign initiated by the Government of India, which is in effect from May 31 to July 31 next, the DTCC,ICR team strongly urged the  young people to make healthy lifestyle choices and reject tobacco consumption. They also called upon parents to play an active role in monitoring their children's activities to prevent them from engaging in the usage of cigarettes and other tobacco products.
In adherence to proper procedures, all the seized cigarettes and tobacco products were subsequently destroyed in the presence of Inspector N. Nishant and the DTCC team ICR.
