KHONSA, Apr 17: As part of Fire safety awareness week, Tirap District police conducted a mini marathon covering 8km.
The marathon was organised for men  and women separately and was open for all. The three winners from each category were awarded prizes and certificates.
The mini-marathon was flagged off by ZPM Khonsa Wanghong Panka in presence of SP Tirap Kardak Riba, Dy. SP Togum Gongo and ranks of police officers.
Nyagan Wangsa of Pongchau village and Langpong Hallang of Lower Chinhan village won the first prize in the women and men category respectively.
The ZPM in his speech appealed the locals to put out fire from fireplace before stepping out of their house and kitchen and before going to sleep at the night to avoid fire accident in the hilly terrain which is prone to such mishaps.
SP Tirap Kardak Riba while interacting with the participants urged them to keep physically and mentally fit through games and sports by avoiding all kinds of  intoxicating substances. 
On the occasion, Station Officer (Fire Brigade) Mimo Riba highlighted the significance of conducting the week long fire safety awareness campaign being conducted all over the country including Tirap district.
Some 136 participants actively participated in the mini marathon race today.
