KHONSA, Aug 9: The District Disaster Management Authority, Tirap in collaboration with 12BN NDRF today conducted a district-level emergency response mock drill exercise on earthquake.  
As per the mock drill program, an earthquake was presumed at 10a.m. after which Radio Station and Police started alerting sirens.
Held under the guidance of  Asst.Commandant,12 bn NDRF, Ram Karan, the State Disaster Rescue Force (SDRF), ex-serviceman, Police Department,  Fire Service,  District NYKK,  community volunteers,  Medical Department,  NGOs, school students and others participated in the exercise.
The mock drill was conducted as part of a precautionary measure to test the preparedness of the school, the stakeholders, employees and technical staff to meet any kind of emergency situation.The mock drill exercise was conducted at Tirap Valley School, Khonsa where all the students and teachers activity participated in the program.
Earlier on Tuesday, Table Top Exercise was conducted at the Mini Secretariat Conference Hall under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Hento Karga. Underlying the importance of disaster management, the DC said efforts need to be taken to strengthen the disaster management response. “Every official should know their roles and responsibilities so as to make the disaster response effective,” he said, adding "all the concerned departments should learn to deal with crisis with the existing resources and know how to use the limited resources."
DDMO Tirap Emily Tingkhatra stressed on updating the available resources for disaster management adding that round-the-clock preparedness should be in place as disasters have no warning signs.
Dr. Ripi Doni, the Incident Commander of the Mock Exercise said preparations are necessary to save human lives during disasters and existing resources have to be used properly.
