Khonsa, Oct 28: The Tirap District Administration successfully conducted the Women Reservation Lottery for Zilla Parishad and Gram Panchayat seats at the Circuit House Community Hall, Khonsa. The event aimed to ensure one-third reservation for women in Panchayati Raj Institutions, thereby promoting equitable representation, inclusivity, and transparency in grassroots governance.
The program was supervised by Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer, Techu Aran, and attended by Khonsa West MLA Smt. Chakat Aboh, ZPM Bari-Basip Tediap Hallang, Khonsa ZPM Wanghong Panka, BJP President, Tirap Unit, Lankham Wangsu, APCC Secretary Tangse Tekwa, ADC-cum-DPDO Namneet Singh, IAS, ADC Deomali B. Tawsik, along with other officials, political representatives, and members of the public.
Welcoming the gathering, DC-cum-DEO Techu Aran highlighted the significance of conducting the lottery draw to ensure one-third reservation for women, as mandated by government directives. He informed that the State Election Commission is contemplating the conduct of Local Bodies Elections in December, and as part of the preparatory activities, the Lottery for reservation of one-third women seats was organized on this day. Emphasizing the importance of transparency and public participation, he assured that the entire proceedings were videographed to maintain full transparency and to address any doubts or concerns that might arise.
In his keynote address, Additional Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Panchayat Development Officer, Namneet Singh, elaborated on the objective and process of the lottery. He informed that a committee was constituted under the Chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner and all other Admin officers as members and ADC-cum-DPDO as Member Secretary to monitor the whole process. He also informed that Tirap District comprises 10 Zilla Parishad Members (ZPMs), 69 Gram Panchayat Segments (GPs), and 345 Gram Panchayat Members (GPMs), out of which 3 ZPM, 23 GPC, and 115 GPM seats have to be reserved for women under the one-third reservation policy.
