AALO, May 2: Heavy damage has been caused to the power supply network in West Siang District by a thunderstorm which hit the area on Saturday.  Low Tension poles and street lights were damaged across the district headquarters Aalo and many places in the rural feeder lines plunging the district into darkness.
The restoration works for urban feeder lines were carried out on Sunday under the personal supervision of Er Dagyom Ango SE and EE Aalo Electrical Division using earthmovers and the entire manpower of the department. New electrical poles had to be erected in many places and only urban feeder lines could be restored and restoration of rural feeder lines where damages have to be assessed and restored will take a couple of days.
Most of the trees in the town areas have outlived their lifespan and are quite
vulnerable now and need clearance and trimmings as per local threat perception as disruptions of such nature are likely this monsoon. These huge and old trees pose danger to human lives and properties, it was informed. DIPRO
