ITANAGAR, Sep 5: In a late report emerging out of recent New Delhi visit of Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh Pema Khandu, according to BJP insiders, Chief Minister Khandu seems to be losing political trust of BJP's central leadership as his attempt to reshuffle the 12 member cabinet has been denied for the second time within past 13 months.
"Pema Khandu along with his coterie of MLAs camped in New Delhi beyond its scheduled visit, seeking approval to re-jig at least 4 cabinet ministers,” informs a highly placed source.
Sources have confirmed that Pema Khandu sought removal of four cabinet ministers - Tumke Bagra, Kamlung Mossang , Alo Libang and Tage Taki. “In addition to these four names, last year (August 2021) when Pema Khandu made his first request to the central leadership for re-shuffling his cabinet ministers, even Taba Tedir was included," sources added.
Sources informed that first attempt to re-jig was scuttled due to intervention of RSS leadership since two of its very old karyakartas -Taba Tedir and Tage Taki- names figured in the list. This time, the central leadership is against any cabinet re-shuffle ever since several PILs were reported against Khandu and his government- DDU Gramin Jyoti Yojana, Namchik-Namphuk Coal Field and Fund Missappropriation of Panchayati Raj.
Meanwhile, at least, two of these ministers have denied any knowledge of such political manoeuvering.
"Even in 2021, I learnt of the news much later through unofficial channels. Pema ji never spoke to me on the matter. I trust Khandu’s leadership and I am sure he trusts me and other cabinet colleagues as much. I am willing to resign if he no longer requires my services," said a minister to this daily on condition of anonymity.

Besides four ministers - Tumke Bagra, Kamlung Mossang , Alo Libang and Tage Taki- named to
be dropped from the cabinet ministry, last year even Taba Tedir’s name was included. Also, it is an open secret that incumbent Home Minister, Bamang Felix has largely been left out in the cold. There appears to be a vertical split in the cabinet.
ITANAGAR, Sep 5: Khandu camp seemed well prepared to fight the political battle for supremacy within the BJP.
Political observers are of the opinion that joining of lone JD(U) MLA, Techi Kaso who represent 13-Itanagar Assembly Constituency and eight Corporators have multiple utility given the history of political upheavals in the state.
One, Khandu was hopeful of approval to re-shuffle his cabinet after Khandu convinced the lone JD (U) MLA, Techi Kaso to join the BJP government almost as a rebuttal to the antics of JD (U) in Bihar. Second, in case of political tussle Khandu is playing to get his numbers way above the danger zone. Third, Kaso’s joining Khandu government signifies that Khandu is taking the battle to the enemy’s camp in case of eventuality since one who controls the street of Itanagar, controls Arunachal!
Speaking to this daily, a Minister revealed that the joining of JD (U) MLA and the eight Corporators of Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC) might be of significance in the light of IMC politics and 13- Itanagar Assembly Constituency.
Already, Mayor Tame Phassang is on the back foot due to multi-crore corruption allegations. Otherwise, Phassang is doing a fine job, he said while reminding how certain BJP MLA candidates were defeated in 2019 besides serving show-cause notices and suspending senior BJP leaders in 2021. Phassang should expect more pressure in days to come, he added.
SIT case recommended against IMC by Deputy Commissioner- ICR, Talo Potom is just the beginning of a likely political coup since Khandu backed corporator Tarh Nachung , an old JD(U) leader and a loyalist of Techi Kaso seemed to have garnered the majority Corporators, pointed a senior BJP leader.
Will there be a coup against Mayor, IMC, Phassang? Let’s wait and watch.
