Sangdupota, Dec 10: The three-month-long 'market inspection cum awareness programme on legal market practices' organised by the Trade and Development Office,Yupia in collaboration with the District Administration culminated on Friday.
The last leg of the programme was conducted at Sangdupota, one of the most interior circles of the district on Friday. The Inspection team was led my Dr. Marchina Boria, ADC In-charge Balijan cum CO incharge Sangdupota.
Services pertaining to trade license like renewal, addition of new trade items and issuance of new application forms  were rendered to shopkeepers on the spot.
Officials of the District Tobacco Control Cell also sensitized the public  about the  Cigarette and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA,) 2003 which prohibits selling of Gutka and Tobacco products to persons below the age of 18 years, and in places within 100 yards radius from the educational institutions.
The team visited the main markets in Basernalo, Inderjuli, Jote and Poma villages. During the inspection, huge quantity of illegal liquor and tobacco products were seized and fines were imposed on the offenders. The seized illegal items were later disposed of.
The three month long  inspection cum awareness programme team has visited all the sub-divisions of the district, namely Sagalee, Doimukh, Kimin and Balijan and collected Rs. 1,20,500 as penalty from trade license defaulters, in the meantime, the District Tobacco Control Cell of Papum Pare also collected Rs. 41,600 from violators of COTPA, 2003.
