DIYUN, July 22: In a rapid and coordinated response, police in Changlang district have arrested three men for the alleged gang rape of a minor girl near Manabum Nala on the night of July 18 last. The incident came to light after a relative of the survivor, who accompanied her, filed a complaint at the Diyun Police Station.
Acting immediately, a police team led by Inspectors Ongsa Ronrang and Bobby Sumnyan, along with other officers, launched an intensive overnight search across several locations. As a result of targeted raids in Shilong Pahar, Manabum, and Kamakhyapur, three suspects were apprehended. The accused have been identified as Chugolo Chakma (31), a resident of Shillong Pahar; Amar Chakma (20), a meat vendor from Manabum; and Som Kumar Chakma, also known as Shanti Jivon (30), from Kamakhyapur.
The case has been officially registered as Diyun Police Station Case No. 19/2025 under appropriate sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, alongside the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012. The minor survivor has already undergone a medical examination and is now in a Child Care Institute, where she is receiving counseling and support for her safety and well-being.
Law enforcement authorities have confirmed that all three accused are in judicial custody while the investigation continues. The police assured the public that they are committed to ensuring justice for the survivor and upholding her protection throughout the process.
