AALO, Jul 12: A mass peaceful sit-in protest demanding immediate construction of National Highway between Bam to Likabali was organized today at Nehru Chowk, which is the heart of Aalo Township, the headquarters of West Siang. Organized by the Aalo Township Public Welfare Development Society(ATPWDS) and supported by all the students unions of West Siang, Non Governmental Organizations(NGOs) of West Siang, Panchayat leaders including general public participated in large numbers. 
The 100-km Likabali to Bam National Highway was sanctioned ten years back but is yet to be completed. This stretch of road is the lifeline of six districts-- West Siang, Leparada, Upper Subansiri, Shi-Yomi and Siang besides it is  equally important from a strategic point of view as Shi-Yomi district is located in the international border with China.
The dilapidated road has resulted in people of the six districts facing much hardships during health emergencies including fuel and ration. 
As per the status report, the completed road condition of the National Highway from Bam to Likabali is so poor. During the monsoon season people of these remote districts are facing hardship. It is reported that many lives have been lost, DIPRO report stated.
The ATPWDS has asked the state government to take up their demands within thirty days. It further demanded the state government to entrust top level technical agency to verify the quality works of the package-I, II & III.
Former minister Kento Ete, who is the ATPWDS Chairman and former minister Doi Ado,  Advisor ATPWDS led the mass peaceful dharna, where thousands in one voice demanded Immediate completion of Bam to Likabali national highway before March 2023.
If the government fails to redress our demand the distressed public of these affected districts will be compelled to go for further democratic movement in the state capital Itanagar, the Society said.
Later a public representation was submitted to the Deputy Commissioner  for further action of the state government. The ATPWDS and public of West Siang requested the MLAs of the affected districts to jointly work together including Kiren Rijiju, Union Minister Law & Justice, to solve the burning issue within a short period of time.
