NAHARLAGUN, May 4: A massive gathering of individuals from various walks of life congregated at Naharlagun Helipad to pay their respects to Gyamar Padang, the whistleblower of the APPSC paper leakage scandal. Padang's mortal remains arrived from Hyderabad on Thursday and were received with solemnity by the crowd.
The occasion witnessed a sea of people, as thousands came forward to pay their last respects to late Padang as he was taken to his residence in the Pachin colony of Naharlagun. The Pan Arunachal Joint Steering Committee, which is spearheading the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission paper leakage scam, has written a letter to Chief Minister Pema Khandu requesting that 5th May be declared a state mourning day to honor Padang's memory.
The outpouring of emotion and the massive turnout of people at the helipad and Padang's residence was a testament to his courage and the significance of his contribution towards justice and transparency.
Late Gyamar Padang, a candidate, lodged a complaint with the Itanagar Police Station on August 28, 2022, alleging that the question papers for the AE (Civil) Mains test, which took place on August 26 and 27, were leaked beforehand. An FIR was registered by the Itanagar Police Department on September 10, 2022, and an investigation was launched, which was later handed over to the State Police's Special Investigation Cell (SIC).
The APPSC paper leak scandal created a furor in the state, resulting in widespread protests, and eventually led to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) taking over the investigation from the SIC, which had detained more than 50 individuals in connection to allegations of wrongdoing in an APPSC examination dating back to 2014. As per recent reports, 54 individuals have been apprehended so far in connection with the APPSC paper leak cases, including 41 state government officials.
Recently, Secretary, State Administrative Reforms, Ajay Chagti disclosed that 19 of the 41 government officials involved in the malpractice have been terminated, and disciplinary proceedings have been initiated against 22 regular employees.
