ITANAGAR, Jun 3: Minister for Environment & Forests, Sports and Youth Affairs Mama Natung called on the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh Brig. (Dr.) B.D. Mishra (Retd.) at Raj Bhavan, Itanagar today. They discussed about the conservation of forests, biodiversity parks and promotion of sports activities and sportspersons.
The Governor emphasised that on the occasion of World Environment Day, the State Government, particularly the Department of Environment and Forests in collaboration with educational institutes must plant maximum numbers of saplings. He suggested for joining of police personnel and members of armed forces deployed in the State for the programme.
On the occasion of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’, each child and each government official must plant a sapling and he or she must be encouraged to tend it till it grows, the Governor said.
The Governor complimented the Sports Minister for organising the World Bicycle Day 2022 in the State Capital and expressed hope that it will encourage healthy physical activities amongst the people. He advised the minister to promote all games and sports popular with our youth and also reward generously sportspersons who have brought laurels for Arunachal Pradesh.
In the meeting the Governor shared his views regarding the forest lands, wildlife sanctuaries and ways and means to preserve nature's bounty. He underscored that there must be a fine balance between ‘ecology and development’.
The Minister assured the Governor to organise the ensuing World Environment Day in a big way.
