TEZU, Oct 11: The only rehabilitation centre run under General Hospital in Lohit district is on the verge of closure.
The effective rehab has rehabilitated till day over 300 addicts and has been catering to needy people from Anjaw, Lohit, Namsai, Dibang and Lower Dibang Valley districts. The centre which has been treating addicts to get rid of addiction to opium, drugs, alcohol or from various other kinds of substance abuse is now facing a bleak future due to the lack of attention.
“We have sent several reminders and intimation to the Project Director, Arunachal Pradesh State AIDS Control Society, DHS, Nahalangun which regrettably have fallen to deaf ears causing immense problems to the rehab. We have engaged four contingency staff whose salary is pending since April 2018. Over and above more than Rs 3 lakhs pending bills on medicines as well as other miscellaneous expenditure have made the rehab completely crippled.
A meeting was also called by Commissioner of Health in September first week who assured immediate release of adequate funds but failed”, disclosed a source.
The Rehabilitation Centre opened on 1st July 2017 and is the only rehab successfully working in Arunachal under the close supervision of Dr S Chai Pul, DMO, Lohit and Dr S Towang, SMO.
