Naharlagun, Jul 3: Panic and chaos gripped C-Sector, Naharlagun on Thursday afternoon after a 19-year-old youth went on a violent rampage, randomly attacking innocent bystanders with a machete.
The incident occurred at around 1:15 PM, prompting an immediate response from Naharlagun Police led by Inspector K. Dev, OC Naharlagun PS. Demonstrating swift and decisive action, the police team managed to nab the accused at Pachin Road after a brief but intense chase, preventing further escalation, SP Naharalgun stated in a press statement.
The assailant, identified as Daman Nima (19 years), son of Late Tada Nima and a native of Village Nima, PO/PS Daporijo, Upper Subansiri District, was arrested and taken into custody. Two separate cases NLG/PS Case No. 87/25 U/S 117(3)/109(2) BNS, and NLG/PS Case No. 88/25 U/S 117(3)/109(2) BNS have been registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita:
However, the random attack left two local residents injured, identified as Nehru Murtem (57), resident of C-Sector and Smti Hage Anku (54), also a resident of C-Sector). Both victims sustained injuries in the unprovoked assault and were immediately provided with medical assistance.
The motive behind the attack remains under investigation. However, the swift and professional response by the Naharlagun Police has drawn praise from residents and helped avert a possible tragedy. Authorities have urged the public to remain calm and vigilant, assuring that a thorough investigation is underway, stated the release.
