Imphal, Oct 16: Acting on the direction of the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh,Brigadier (Dr.) B. D. Mishra (Retd), a state team led by Deputy Speaker Tesam Pongte went on a visit to the Border Trade Point at Moreh, Manipur starting from October 13 last to study the infrastructure, set-up, organisation and functioning of the Border Trade Point at Moreh in  Manipur and take inputs for shaping the proposed Border Trade Point at Pangsau Pass in state’s Changlang district.
The team comprised of MLAs Laisam Simai & Zingnu Namchoom, IRS, Secretary to GoAP Anirudh S. Singh, Director, Trade & Commerce Tokong Pertin and Deputy Director Trade & Commerce Sonyung Modi. The Deputy Speaker was declared as a State Guest of Manipur and the team was accorded a warm welcome by the Manipur government. On October 14 the team called on the Governor of Manipur, Dr. Najma Heptulla and shared issues regarding border trades of the two states. While reaching the Border Trade Point at Moreh, the team visited Land Customs Station (LCS) Office and had a fruitful discussion with the officers of Manipur’s Department of Commerce & Industry, Commandant of 43 Assam Rifles, officers from Integrated Check Post (ICP) & Customs and trade body represented by Secretary, Border Trade Chamber of Commerce, Moreh Surinder Singh Patheja on October 15.  Pongte on behalf of the state team and GoAP expressed their gratitude to the Government of Manipur for the hospitality shown to them. The team is also scheduled to make a courtesy call on Chief Minister of Manipur, N. Biren Singh and share their experience of the visit and shall now submit a detailed report of the visit to the state government on arrival at Itanagar.
It can be recalled that Arunachal Pradesh has decided to shape the proposed Border Trade Point at Pangsau Pass through Land Customs Station, Nampong to take advantage of its geographical location and increase  trade with ASEAN and other border countries through Pangsau Pass under Indo-Myanmar Sector. The Land Customs Station (LCS), Nampong (Pangsau Pass) was approved and notified by GoI way back in 1951 is now lying non-functional and currently, traditional and informal low profile trade is being carried out by the indigenous hill tribes of both India and Myanmar living within the 40 km radius. As per latest amended Rule under Free Movement Regime, 40 kms of exempted area is now reduced to 16 kms and border trade is organized on every 10th, 20th & 30th of every month on Myanmar side in the form of melas/bazaars.
