TEZU, Sep 12: Member of Parliament Tapir Gao inaugurated a Material Recovery Facility at Tezu today. The facility can handle and process 5 Metric Tonnes of waste per day and is touted to be a stepping stone towards making Tezu a benchmark town in urban waste management and meeting towards the sustainable development goals and effective implementation of Swachh Bharat Mission.
It is a first of its kind MRF which aims at reducing time and cost involved in collection and transfer of waste, besides generating income by recovering reusable and recyclable waste. Door-to-door waste collection vehicles will bring segregated waste, both dry and wet, in different compartments to the MRF that has dedicated space for sorting of recoverable dry waste into different categories like recyclable plastics, glass bottles, metals etc.
Er. Bapenlu Kri, EE, UD & H, Tezu said that Sanitation labourers collect whatever they can from the mixed waste and give it to the scrap dealers. With functioning of MRF, we aim to increase the amount of waste being recycled, she said. She further informed that shredder machines shall be set up in the MRF building soon so as to use the shredded plastic in making roads, building blocks etc for which the department needs to tie up with a manufacturing unit willing to take the end product.
Bonsai nursery is one of a first kind of initiative in the State by the Environment & Forest Division, Tezu. This nursery is going to create awareness and interest in the art of Bonsai amongst the interested entrepreneurs and enthusiasts of the district.
The inauguration program was attended by MLAs Kanggong Taku, Talem Taboh, Deputy Commissioner Lohit, Shashvat Saurabh among others.
