Yingkiong, Sep 2: Minister, Horticulture, Agriculture, Fishery etc  Tage Taki inaugurated a Farm School under Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA) of the Agriculture Department here on September 1 in presence of Minister, Health & Family Welfare, Alo Libang.
Along with this inauguration, Agriculture Minister visited an ‘Integrated Farming System’ of Onyok Tekseng, a progressive farmer of Yingkiong, which is a well-managed 2-hectare fish pond incorporated with rice field, horti-garden, fodder crops, bamboo and other various important species of trees. This venture has achieved commercial success since Tekseng earns around 3.50 lakh per hectare annually from sale of fish which meets the requirements of Yingkiong township. Citing this success story, Taki exhorted the farmers to take up integrated farming and assured to help the Self Help Groups (SHGs) in every possible way. Heath and Family Welfare Minister Alo Libang also advised the farmers to adopt organic practice in farming and avoid hazardous herbicides and weedicides. Deputy Director, Agriculture A.D. Panggam highlighted the activities of Women SHGs of Yingkiong and requested the Agriculture Minister for provision of tractors, power tillers and grass cutters which are in high demand in Upper Siang district.
Later in the evening, all HoDs of agriculture, horticulture and allied departments updated their activities through Power Point Presentation where the Minister asked them to submit details of total available resources and works to be undertaken for betterment of the farmers of the district. Taki also visited Koying area WRC field and interacted with the farmers of Simong village today. On receiving a memorandum by the farmers for funding a fencing construction in the paddy field, he assured to look into the matter. Libang also urged the HoDs to use their skills for all-round  development of the district.
