AALO, Apr 8: Agriculture Minister Tage Taki distributed two tractors and sixteen power tillers to the farmers of West Siang district under the Sub-Mission on Agricultural Mechanization scheme in a function held here at the office premises of District Agriculture department on Wednesday.
Taki also inspected various agriculture, horticulture, veterinary and fishery schemes of the district accompanied by MLA Aalo East Advocate Kento Jini, Director, Animal Husbandry Dr. ND Mintoo, Joint Director, Horticulture Tage Tatung, Joint Director Agriculture Karbom Riram, West Siang Deputy Commissioner Moki Loyi and concerned Head of Offices. While informing that efforts are being taken to fulfil the farmers’ demands of switching over to mechanised ways of farming, the Agriculture Minister stressed on registration of farmers for availing government financial aid. Community farming and fencing should be worked out by the farmers as it’s not possible for the government to fund the individual needs, he said while asking the department officers to submit production statistics so that demands can be placed before the Central government.
Field officials should make spot visits and impart technical knowledge to the farmers, Taki reiterated and stressed on composite farming and double cropping for raising farmers’ income. He also visited the R.K Mission School, his alma mater and interacted with the Swamijis, alumni and students. The Aalo East MLA who is also the Adviser, Law and Parliamentary Affairs stressed on increasing the quota of power tillers to meet the growing demand of the district’s farmers and more funds for fishery development.
High-breed potato seeds have been distributed to the farmers of his constituency, Jini disclosed. The district’s progressive farmers apprised the Minister and the MLA about the problems faced by them. DIPRO
