NAMSAI, May 16:

 

Cyclonic storm with heavy rain that lashed Namsai district on Sunday evening hit normal life. The storm which lasted about 90 minutes left a trail of devastation in its wake causing massive damages to homes and uprooting trees and leaving a person dead. The deceased Khonil Gogoi of New Mohong area in Lekang Circle died due to sudden collapse of a building. Reports state that at least 180 homes were completely damaged and numerous others partially damaged besides cattle sheds and granaries.

Deputy Chief Minister, Chowna Mein who is also the local MLA expressed shock and grief over the loss of life. He further requested the district administration to provide immediate necessary assistance to all the victim families.

A team led by ADC Bijoy Talukdar visited the affected villages to assess the situation. Team also visited the house of the deceased and assured to extend all necessary help as per norms. District Administration has deputed a team of officials to visit the affected villages to assess actual loss and damages occurred due to storm.The cyclone also snapped power supply lines. Several inter village roads in Lekang Circle have been blocked by the uprooted trees and the local administration and police have swung into action to clear the roads.
